Vermont’s upcoming series versus Hartford was postponed this evening. It was only a matter of time before the Cats experienced a COVID disruption. With several other Vermont teams already on pause the possibility of a disruption increased. Then after it was announced that the Maine men’s basketball team had a positive test result and was on pause this morning, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. This pause is not due to a positive test within the Vermont program but possible exposure to a COVID positive individual. Seems like this could be related to the Maine positive. Both Hartford and Vermont have the first two weeks of February open so I would expect that to be a place for this series to be moved to. Tough timing for Vermont as they were really coming together and firing on all cylinders. Hopefully they will have no positive tests and will be back in action against Stony Brook on January 30th and 31st.
This is so discouraging. Lee could you clear something up for me. If this is a free year for all players and all 13 scholarship players return and Vt. has two recruits coming in what happens and does the coach make the decision on who redshirts or whatever ? Thanks Wayne
ReplyDeleteThe seniors who choose to return do not count against scholarship limits. It is going to create a lot of difficult decisions for coaching staffs and a lot of difficult conversations with players. The coaches have to balance building for the future while honoring the players who have been there and want to play another year.
DeleteIs Tomas Murphy returning? I sure hope so. I would gladly welcome all of this year's seniors back, as well as Justin and Tomas.
ReplyDeleteI would expect them both to return.
DeleteWell, it was fun while it lasted. The Catamount web page shows Stony Brook series is postponed as well. I am sure Cat fans, wish the Cat players and Staff who put themselves out their for out viewing pleasure all the best and a healthy turn around. It looks like we have two open weekends the beginning of February to make these games up. At what point to we start being concerned that we don't have enough games to qualify for the tournament?
