Vermont falls in the WNIT semifinal

St. Louis 57 Vermont 54

St. Louis came out in the second half and shot the lights out while the Cats offense never quite found a rhythm and Vermont came up short in the WNIT semifinal. What a magical and inspirational run. Patrick Gym was packed and rocking from the opening tip. The game didn't go Vermont's way but what a great send off for Emma Utterback and Delaney Richason. Personally I can't thank Emma and Delaney enough for how they have inspired young Vermonters around the state with their incredible careers on and off the court. Big shout out to Bella Vito with another double double and playing with reckless abandon. What an amazing place for Vermont to be, with both basketball programs playing at such a high level. I feel lucky every time I walk into Patrick gym because I know I am going to see a great basketball game. What a wonderful winter of basketball for the Cats.

  1. They could have won if they could have found someone that could make a layup. So many missed chances. Need more offense next year. Defense gets you in the game, but points win it.

  2. That’s a reasonable response, however the opportunities were available offensively. They just missed them. The pressure of a good game versus a strong opponent will cause that. Tired legs will send easy shots off the front rim often. It was exciting for Vermont to be in the Fab4! The desire for UVM to migrate to a different league (see Atlantic 10 conversation) would hurt the overall athletic programs at Vermont. Teams across the board are having success in the America East. Great for drawing in a fan base. Patrick was packed last night! We just need a total new sports complex. They need to finish the Tarrant Center.

    1. Completely agree with this comment look at the overall program Mens and Women’s lacrosse, soccer and basketball have done extremely well. Skiing should always be nationally competitive at the highest levels, given our geography , and we have been , that leaves hockey which was once competing at the highest levels , how many soccer , lacrosse, basketball players have we had at the level of LeClair St Louis, etc, easy answer NONE I think one of the keys to success at the college level ( in all sports ) Is coaching. Does anyone think we would be where we are in all sports without great coaches ? Finding and retaining coaches should be a top priority. Great coaches attract great players and that leads to success. Jeff Schulman keep doing what you are doing let’s hope mens hockey can start to return to its glory days.
