Vermont 72 Binghamton 53
Vermont used a balanced attack to bury Binghamton on the road. The Cats put 5 players in double figures and were able to get some quality minutes from their bench for the second game in a row. This is the type of depth and bench production that Vermont expected to have from the beginning of the season. The difficulty of the the non conference schedule and key injuries sapped the Cats ability to build up their bench. Now Vermont has a opportunity to really build their chemistry and get some minutes and some confidence for the guys on the bench. This stretch will be crucial for Vermont to help solidify roles for the stretch run. Anthony Lamb, Ben Shungu, and Ryan Davis all led the Cats with 12 points apiece. Stef Smith and Robin Duncan chipped in 10 points each to round out the double figure scorers. Robin also led the team with 8 rebounds. The offense looked fluid for most of the game and the defense was locked in from start to finish. The Cats have responded to the loss to Stony Brook by taking care of business on the road, particularly on the defensive end. In a rapid turn of events, with Stony Brook's loss to Hartford tonight, Vermont has a chance to put themselves back at the top with a win over Hartford on Saturday. This is why it is important not to overreact to a single game outcome so early in the conference schedule. Now the Cats have all the fire and motivation they need to come out and make a statement at Patrick on Saturday.
P.S. Anthony Lamb now sits 15 points away from becoming only the 7th Catamount to reach the 1700 point plateau.
