Vermont at UNH 1/16/19

Vermont 73 UNH 59

Vermont overcame hot shooting from deep by UNH to move to 4-0 in conference. The Cats dug in on defense down the stretch and Ernie Duncan made some tough shots to put the game away. Samuel Dingba came up with two huge blocks and drew a charge when the Cats needed stops. If at the beginning of the season you had told me that Dingba was going to be a difference maker on this team, I wouldn't have believed you. He has really found a place on this team and is excelling in being the defensive stopper. Anthony Lamb again led the way with 28 points and 8 rebounds. The array of shots he can hit is incredible and he showcased the entire repertoire in this one. Robin Duncan came out in the second half with fire in his eyes and made some hard nosed plays to give Vermont its edge back. He is really becoming a leader on this team. Stef Smith knocked down some crucial threes when the offense was stalling out in the second half and finished with 14 points. Ryan Davis returned from injury and looked good in his first minutes of 2019. He could be a difference maker down the stretch as he provides an offensive option to a thin frontcourt. This game was a classic case of the huge underdog treating the game like the conference finals. UNH was pumped and ready to fight. As the top team you get everyone's best shot and UNH played very well in this game. Vermont was able to do enough to pull out the victory and will be able to go back to the tape and find some things they need to clean up before their next game against Binghamton on Saturday night.
